Everyday we wake up to choices,
a choice to scroll social media or a choice to read a book.
a choice to respond to emails, WhatsApp messages or a choice to write something meaningful.
a choice to get through a to do list filled with shallow work like pay bills, send message, call XYZ or a choice to create something.
All the tasks we default to are the ones that require least effort, it is easier to respond to an email which doesn’t require thought than to write a meaningful article.
But all those shallow choices are also not the ones that develop us and make as an individual who is respected, valued and can make the change happen. The choice to prioritise shallow work gives us a false sense of productivity.
Nothing great comes out of work that requires no emotional labour. The only thing it provides you is a feeling of work done.
You can say my work is done but can you say my work is well done because its required my creative thinking and exerting emotional labour.
"I attended your story telling course some time back. And I've enjoyed keeping up my knowledge with your blog. You may not have realised however, that the Whole of Government is implementing Internet Seperation. Hence I'm not able to access the links to read your articles. Could I suggest including a QR code in your emails so that I can use my mobile to scan it and gain immediate access to the article? It would be most helpful"
