Q May Chen

Taiwanese woman Q May Chen was given an devastating diagnosis: she had stage 4 breast cancer. This information was particularly heartbreaking for the 29-year-old, as she had triumphantly beat cancer just 2 years prior. Still, Chen was determined to remain in good spirits and not let a terminal illness stop her from living her dreams. So, to celebrate her 30th birthday, she decided to star in a stunning series of wedding photos by herself.

At first, Chen’s photos look as if they were taken during a traditional bridal session. Chen is dressed in a gorgeous white gown and tiara as she poses in a selection of beautiful settings. With a smile on her face, Chen is undoubtedly a bride-to-be. As one leafs through the entire collection of photos, however, it becomes clear that one thing is missing: a partner.

While being photographed alone may seem a bit unusual for a wedding photo shoot, Chen was empowered by the idea after realizing that “you don’t need to wait for someone to complete you.” Having dreamt of starring in her very own bridal photos since she was a child, she decided to take matters into her own hands and ultimately booked an unconventional yet equally special solo shoot. “When I was younger, I loved to dress up and always hoped that I would one day be able to do my own wedding shoot when I got married,” She said. “And so I waited, but then I got sick again. That was when I finally decided that this was something I needed to do.”

As a result of this inspiring decision, Chen was able to finally fulfill her childhood dream. Next, she hopes to have a “honeymoon” in Bali, where she and her mother will take advantage of their time together. “I couldn’t have known that stage four cancer was waiting for me,” she said, “but I’m making the most of the limited time we all have.”
